The Gandikota canyon, also known as the 'Grand Canyon of India', is a gorge formed by the river Pennar cutting through the Erramalai Range. The Pennar river originates in the Nandi Hills of Karnataka and flows eastward across Andhra Pradesh before draining into the Bay of Bengal. Its erosional activity over geological time has carved out the spectacular Gandikota gorge.
